The participation of the EU parliamentarians sparked outrage in the right-wing government of Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán. Government spokesman Zoltán Kovács accused the opposition of inciting violence against national laws "with foreign support" and "mocking Hungary's sovereignty." The Pride event took place "on orders from Brussels," Kovács continued. Many participants in the demonstration are increasingly dissatisfied with their own government, which continues to dismantle Hungary's open culture.
